Northlight Publishing House was founded in London in 2025 to bring beautiful books into the world with care. We specialise in publishing fiction and children's picture books. Our mission includes supporting emerging authors by providing thoughtful editorial guidance, allowing their unique voices to shine. We strive to create books that feel memorable.
Northlight was launched by Dr. Natasha Van Der Pol, whose editorial vision is shaped by a lifelong interest in how storytelling helps us understand identity and belonging.
Before founding Northlight, Natasha worked for a national research council, managing multi-country research across Eastern and Southern Africa. Her contributions to policy-relevant research on human rights and social change earned her recognition on the Mail & Guardian’s 200 Young South African Leaders list in 2017 for her impactful human rights research.
Natasha's passion project is her series of children's picture books, The Dr. Kitty Books. Inspired by her doctoral work at the University of Bristol, these books help parents have more meaningful conversations with their young children. The series is best suited for reading with children aged 4–8 years. The Dr. Kitty stories help transform complex ideas about identity into messages that young children can relate to and begin speaking about openly with their caregivers. This is particulary useful in multicultural contexts as Natasha's research found that children often ask questions about identity earlier than parents anticipate. The Dr. Kitty Books provide a gentle way to discuss sensitive topics in a way that feels informative and age appropriate.
As the founder of Northlight Publishing House and Editor-in-Chief of The Northlight Good Reads Magazine, Natasha not only supports emerging authors but also brings scholarly depth and editorial precision to all her projects, believing firmly in the creation of beautiful books made with purpose.
Northlight publishes fiction across a range of genres alongside children’s picture books. We welcome submissions from both established and debut authors, with a supportive editorial team that helps new writers develop their work with confidence.
